Sustainable Professional Development of German Language Teachers in China: Research Assessment and External Research Funding

The academic evaluation of teachers languages other than English (LOTEs) has been extensively researched, especially from the perspective publications. However, little attention paid to another key performance indicator in teacher assessment, namely, external research funding. Focusing on German language (GLTs), this paper adopts a mixed methods approach investigate assessment requirements for LOTE terms funding and factors that may impact their accomplishments. Based Bronfenbrenner’s ecological systems theory conservation resources theory, we analyzed policy documents universities under investigation, examined “German or Germany-related” approvals, conducted semi-structured interviews with eight GLTs explore environmental (individual context, institutional social chronological context) influence survival findings indicate each context interact one have combined GLTs’ application activity. Moreover, there is an imbalance between demands faced by resource support available them. This affect development likely continuing throughout career. study concludes offering some suggestions at different levels facilitate sustainable professional GLTs.
